Meet Kara Carlson
Meet Kara Carlson, a Loan Servicing Specialist here at Kitsap Credit Union. Kara first came to KCU a little over two years ago as part of our Float team, helping members at any branches that were experiencing staffing shortages. She soon found a home at our Belfair branch before working her way toward her current position.
“My favorite parts of my current role are the interactions that I get to have with other employees and the knowledge that I have gained,” said Kara. “When I was in the branches, I had beautiful interactions with members but didn’t interact much with other departments or with the Contact Center and now when I answer the phone, I know who it is just by their voice, and I have met so many more people who work here than I thought I would!
“Another reason I enjoy my role is that I am also very much a “why” person,” shared Kara. “I love to know the reason behind the decision made and the processes that we have. Working in Loan Servicing has given me so much more knowledge of the ins and outs of the processes that we have and what it takes behind the scenes to make the credit union run smoothly as a whole.”
Kara’s colleagues enjoy her positive attitude, willingness to learn new things, and the care she pours into her work. “My first impression of Kara was when we had attended vehicle lending training together,” said Anne Fabe, Title Specialist. “In that short time, I saw her willingness to always ask questions and her drive to learn. I became much more acquainted with Kara when she joined Loan Servicing about a month after I had joined Titles. Now that I work with her more often, that impression has turned into adoration. I admire how Kara strives to see the individual. It can be easy in back office to feel like you're just looking at names and numbers. I appreciate how we share the same sentiment—that these are real people with real lives. She carries this thought with her, and you can see it in her amazing work ethic. Kara is a fantastic coworker and just a general joy to be around.”
When we asked Kara what her favorite part about being a team member at KCU is, she said, “The people that I get to work with every day. When I am going through things personally, I have people that I can count on. When I am needing help professionally, I have people that I can count on. KCU prioritizes being a safe space for all employees and that is something that I can’t say for other employers that I have worked for.
“I also love that I can make an impact on people’s financial lives. Finances are something that I have struggled with in the past, so being able to use the knowledge that I have gained to help others succeed is such a good feeling. You never know what kind of impact you are going to have on someone’s life just by showing up each day and that is such a beautiful aspect of our job at the credit union.”
“I put my whole heart into everything that I do every day,” Kara expressed. “My job doesn’t just pay my bills, my job affects the lives of our members, so I give my all to make sure that others are taken care of.”
Thank you for all you do, Kara! We’re glad you’re here.
